(Fr) Summer camp 2017 avec les Scouts !

Sorry, this entry is only available in Fr.

An intensive year!

The school year is coming to an end for our young pastry students. Friday, Group 2 will have its last class while Group 1 will finish training. The month of July will be devoted to revisions, interviews practice and job search.

This year will have been rich in discovery for our young girls: discovery of Siem Reap, school, pastry, english class, accounting, hotel training … At the same time, the teaching team wanted to develop the open-mindedness of the students as well as their culture through many playful activities.
Special emphasis was placed this year on the serious environmental problems in Cambodia. Through presentations and activities, we wanted to sensitize young girls to the importance of sorting and recycling:
– Participation in the Clean & Green up Temple Town 2016 initiative: a large collection of waste in the city of Siem Reap.
– Achievement of a workshop at our partner Nagaearth to learn how to recycle paper, plastic bottles and plastic bags.
– Visit of the NGO Rehash Trash, which recycles plastic to make objects: baskets, placemats, pencil jars etc. The girls were able to try the plastic hook and leave with a recycled object!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In addition, we wanted to allow girls to deepen their knowledge of Khmer culture.
That is why we took them the 8th of March (women’s day) to visit the cultural village of Siem Reap. They attended performances about every provinces of Cambodia.
The girls also had the chance to see a show of the famous circus Phare. This Cambodian NGO trains arts to young people. They do several well-known circus shows in Cambodia including one, Sokha, which stages the period of the Khmer Rouge.
Then, last week, the girls visited Artisans d’Angkor workshops, a social enterprise that aims to highlight Khmer culture through local crafts.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Finally, to complete the personal fulfillment of the young girls, we introduced them to Yoga. A widespread activity in Cambodia, yoga is both a physical sport but also a state of mind in which the healthy mind and the healthy body go hand in hand.Yoga class
Now time for reviewings, good luck to them!

Party day at the primary school!

Every year before the khmer new year hollydays, we organize the kids party at the primary school.
“We arrive on April 7th at 8am at the primary school and the students are already there. It is a sunny day and the children are excited: today is the primary school’s party! We bought balloons to decorate the yard and we inflated them with the kids.
At 8:30 am, the students’ show begins. Kindergarten start the show and sing songs they learned in class. It is a great success. It is the turn of Grade 3 students to give us their show. Then taking his courage in both hands, a grade 6 student sings a solo. Applauses fuse!
The end of the show launches the opening of the games organized by the primary school’s team: musical chair game, rope, watermelon contest … Children are in great shape and have lots of fun. Now is the time for lunch, the opportunity for the children and for us to rest!
After lunch music is put on and the children give themselves to heart and dance around the courtyard post.
The afternoon continues with 3 games, one of which ends in a water battle.
Then it’s time to leave. Each child leaves with a rain cape and a t-shirt offered by a friend of the school.
Thanks a lot for this great day!”

Class council

The first semester’s final exams took place in the last week of January at the primary school. Here is a quick report of our student’s results
Over our 261 students, 96% of students completed their semester and 50 were reported as having difficulties on one of these 3 criteria:
• Failure in the first semester (= average below 5/10)
• Over 3 unjustified absences
• Behavior problems or consequent learning difficulties
The class council thus allowed to consider each of these students and find solutions to help them improve their results and behaviors.
The following is a summary of the decisions made:
1. For each pupil in failure, meetings will be held with the parents to make them aware of their child’s schooling and to decide on a way to help the pupil to progress:
– Find help from a family member
– Give school materials to practice at home
2. Parents will now receive a summary of their child’s academic performance by letter
3. We will introduce math tutoring courses for grades 5 and 6
Here are some examples of the follow-up measures we are putting in place to give each student a better chance of successfully pursuing their education.
Congratulations to all our students who obtained good results this semester.
