After a dreadful twenty year civil war that ended in the beginning of the nineties, the country is now trying to tend its wounds. Cambodia is one of the world’s poorest countries, with a GNP per habitant below $950.
Cambodia’s educational system shows a severe lack of efficiency; more that 50% of Cambodian children leave school before their literacy level can help them escape poverty. Infrastructure is poor (15,000 classrooms need to be refurbished and 10,000 additional classrooms still need to be built) and families are increasingly having difficulty paying for their children’s education.
